well, come to find out I don't have chickens who eat their own eggs; it's either one or two bluejays and I'm losing around six eggs a week, sometimes two at a time. I can't stay out there all the time. I got an air pistol but he's very quick when I've been there.
Should I try and cover the two pens and keep them isolated for awhile? It's a big job for me, but that's all I can think of. They'll go nuts, but I'm going nuts with the loss.

Oh yeah, the wire I've used is 2-1/2 inches around the pens--rookie me, huh? I can't replace all that, it's way too large.
thnx

Whatever you do... don't hurt jay.

Eventually he will move on to greener pastures. Try to install some netting to isolate area where the eggs are laid. I think they would avoid area that looks like a trap.. Your chickens will walk around some barrier and to their nest, but jay may have hesitation.. You may also try to hang some shiny deterrents near where the eggs are at. The other reality is unless you are a sniper from the recent combat missions, you will not have much success in hitting a moving target with a bb. You may end up getting your, or neighbors windows, Or like in "CHRISTMAS STORY " Shoot your eye out.

WISHING YOU BEST

I'm laughing -- thnx for your response--I took a few pot shots this AM and ate my breakfast while waiting for my early layers to deliver. Missed jay of course--I'm away from my windows as well as neighbors. Gonna try bird netting on one door and aluminum strips on the other.
thnx again
PS: Still smiling
