Yes, they almost always (marans and Wellies) fade. The darkest eggs are in the first few weeks, then they get lighter. They are darker again at the start of a season, but lighter than they were at the start of the last. It’s all about their reserves and production of pigments.Do you notice them fading in color later in the season? I've got a few that do and usually start out light after broody/molt, then start darkening again.
