Blueticks

Lance and I raise, hunt, train, and show bluetick coonhounds. We currently have three. I thought I would share some pics of our hounds.
Here's Jane. She's our youngest at just over a year old.

Gus is my show champion. He is four years old.

Bud is almost 14.

Jacob Black is my three year old mutt.

They're all beautiful dogs! Thanks so much for sharing. I have to say that I am partial to mutts, so Jacob Black (love the Twilight name) is my favorite - does he have Newfoundland in him?

I think you have to be a certain type of person to love hounds. I am not that type of person. I love dogs, hounds included, but I dont enjoy owning them.

They are beautiful. I raised a BT puppy. She was frigg'n gorgeous. As blue as blue could be. loyal, sweet, friendly.

Dumber than a box of flat rocks though. lol.

Your guys are gorgeous. They look so happy, you must hunt with them often- nothing makes a better looking hound than a frequent hunt!

I'm glad you like my children. Jacob weighs over 100 lbs. He is a Newfoundland mix. He would love for someone to fall into our pond. LOL. He goes swimming every day. He even breaks the ice to swim in winter. I've seen him frosted white with ice, but he don't mind. He's my "guard dog". He looks fierce especially with his big teeth, but he's a softie.
Jane is a grand pup to Rambo II. She has the really old Smokey River breeding.
Gus is mostly old Utchman stuff.
Bud is Diamond W breeding. Bud is Gus's sire.
All three blueticks have multiple champion pedigrees from good hunting lines. Amy

Jane is a chop mouth hound. She's really loud too. She can be heard for miles. Gus is a deep bawl mouth hound, and he's loud. He's silent on track though. Bud has a scratchy bawl mouth. He's retired from hunting. His health won't let us run him much anymore. They come from generations of great hunting hounds. I have raised some that are used to hunt bear, cougers, and bobcats. We only hunt raccoons with the hounds here at home. All my hounds were born hating raccoons. I could take a puppy that had never seen a coon, and he would try and kill it on sight. We don't usually kill a raccoon unless its been in someone's chickens or crops. Then my kids are only too glad to be the executioner. Mostly we reward the dogs when they get home from a hunt with a smoked pig's ear.

No, Blueticks are not for everyone. Did I mention they are LOUD! LOL. I have heard my hounds treed litterally miles away from us. So, they would not make good apartment dogs. Your neighbors would really love Jane and Gus. Jane barks 100 barks a minute and one bark from Gus last several seconds. They also can run for miles and miles over rough ground without tiring. They can also swim really well. They also have better eyesight than other dogs, so can pick out a raccoon sitting in a tree. They are also escape artists, and smarter than your average bear. They will watch you open a gate, and then they do it too. Oh, and they think bunnies and kitties are tasty. If not taught early on to leave them alone, they will kill cats. They consider them raccoons with wiskers. We have a understanding about my pet cats, so they leave them alone. I'm lucky. They are great for folks with chickens though. There's no coon problem here. LOL. My chickens roost near the hounds. No coon or fox in its right mind will try for one of my chicks. We live in the middle of a 47 acre pasture.

Oh boy I was waiting for someone to start a thread on blueticks! I have one and her name is Molly... she will be 2 on august 29th.
