BO changes, close to POL (blog style) [updated - first egg]

i think they started the egg-song yesterday

according to the wife's description .... since i am not entirely sure what the egg song sounds like .... what she described sounded a lot what others have described as the "egg-song"

... all 4 hens were doing it .... not sure if one started and the other three joined in or what?

i would guess that my RIR is closest to laying ... they are all 26 weeks

with the time change it has been hard for me to get home in time to take a picture to show their status

Sorry, its been a little while since i have had time to snap some photos ---- one day i will need to get a digital camera instead of using a cell phone.

Week 27

Ming Ming --- comb is bigger/redder/thicker and her waddles are noticeably bigger

Buttercup --- comb is bigger/redder/thicker and definitely taller. Her waddles are also noticeably bigger

Just for giggle i have added a picture of Mouse ... i think she is a RIR --- same age as the buff orpingtons --- i know the photo makes her comb look a little orangish --- but trust me it is as blood read as it gets ... i give her any day before she shoots an egg out

I just wanted to let you know that our BO's (most of their combs and waddles are the size of your RIR) started laying on their 20 week bday.... not all. I think just one that day..... but we're getting up to 6 eggs a day now and they'll be 22 weeks on Thursday. I thank you for posting pictures of the progress your birds have been making. I really enjoy looking at them! I hope you will get some eggs soon!

I'm so glad to find this thread. I have 2 BOs and for most of their lives we called them "the twins" because we absolutely couldn't tell them apart. At about 17-19 weeks one of them started to grow combs/wattles. The other had none. I'm not sure of the exact age, but at around 22 weeks (probably) the one with the comb/wattles started laying. She's since been named Wanda Wattles and she has a huge comb and great big wattles. The other former "twin" has been named Wilma Weirdo. She still doesn't have comb/wattles and ALL of the other pullets have been laying for a couple of months. She's about 30 weeks old now. We've about decided that she will always be a bizarrely huge "chick." But I am glad to see on here that it's possible for pullets to wait until 36-39 weeks. I guess there's still hope. I'll be watching this thread for sure!

I just thought I could get in on this a little. My 2 BO's look just like Mike555444's, and have been squatting for 2 weeks now, and still nothing!!!!! I just don't get it!!!! I'm hoping any day now....?????

Shaggy - I won the race! My BO, Puddin' laid her first egg yesterday at 25.5 weeks old. I thought she was being attacked by something she was making such an awful noise. One small brown egg. Yay. I hope your girl is laying soon.
