I'm a newbie, and have 5 chickens. (Buff Orp., 2 Gold Sex Links, 1 Black Sex Link, 1 Silver lace wyandotte)
My oldest is a 25 week old Buff Orpington who has been laying faithfully every day at 11am for 3 weeks. However, she has suddenly stopped laying. Monday I had to take her off the nest (trying to be broody), and she hasn't gone back since.
No new nests, and no interest in the golf balls in the nest box, either. I don't think anyone is eating eggs.
No sudden stresses.
Does not appear to be egg bound.
All have been checked for worms, mites, etc.
Nice bright eyes, eats and drinks normally.
No sign (or access) for rats or snakes.
However, it is really hot here - but then again, this is TX and it's been hot all summer. It's actually a couple of degrees cooler than the last couple of weeks.
Any ideas? I'm gonna try explaining about Doc Hatchet and his fantastic freezer camp and see if that helps..
