Yeah...I had a GORGEOUS (but horribly rude) Crevecoeur rooster. He had red ear lobes. The hen I bought that came with him had pinkish/white lobes but otherwise, awesome type. The rooster was killed by my horses a few months after I got him. I actually took eggs out of our fridge and put them in the incubator. I had ONE egg hatch and it was a roo. With white ear lobes. LOL

Most of what our committee gets is people trying to change the Standard to match their birds. The SOP does not match the birds in their yard, so obviously it is wrong. It is generally not the old timers requesting these changes, although every few years some old timers that can't get a pearl eye on their Cornish will try to get it changed to whatever color they have. We are in the middle of "tweeking" the Standard right now, but we won't be doing anything to match someones birds..it is mostly8 trying to get the info into a clearer format.

Hello Walt,

Would you please explain what a "Pearl Eye" is? Couple of times, I have heard reference to the Pearl Eye, and when I asked what it was; I was told that it was the shape of the eye; nearly perfect roundness.

Thank you!

A pearl eye is the color of the eye. It is a whitish color.......like this bird of ours.

What kind of bird is she? I don't recognize it at all? Such short legs and compact body, awesome! Beautiful lacing too! Oh, cornish bantam? from sign? Gotta look those up, so pretty! Love learning about all these beautiful birds and there is always another one as beautiful as the last.

I had the pleasure several years ago in Bakersfield at the spring show there to hold one of these birds briefly. Walt's partner, Bob Jones, was talking to someone about this bird and I just happened to be walking down the isle and he turns and hands this bird to me and says "Here, feel that!" I was totally shocked at the weight of these little things. They could probably compare with an old fashioned cannon ball (probably not but you get the idea). I was forevermore impressed!

Just thought I'd mention that I have an old oil painting on a carved board of a Crevecour or Lafleche hen. She is a splash, with red earlobes.

How cool, that bird is beautiful! It looks like a duck! I wonder if they waddle, LOL.

Would love to see a snapshot of it! I'm already convinced they should and did have red earlobes at this point. The Dorking is suspected as being a major contributor to the Crevecoeur gene pool.
