bob white lockdown

How many days has the cracked egg been sitting like that? If it's been more than 2 days, you might want to intervene. He may be stuck. Very carefully pick away at a small portion of the shell. Dampen the entire egg with spray water first. You can check out some of these How Tos here on BYC on how to crack the little guy out. https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=intervening+with+hatching

It is not likely any more will hatch, but I would definitely go another day or so just in case. Keep us posted! :-)

It's been sat there since yesterday he keeps trying to pip

The other one with the bad leg died earlier poor thing must not have been strong enough :(

As for the other one, do not open the lid of the incubator so he doesn't dry out. If he is still like that tomorrow, and shows no sign of zipping out, you might have to bust him out. 24 hours is common to sit like that, but if the time exceeds 2 days or more, generally they are stuck.

Thank you :) suppose it's better than him suffering poor thing

I'll give this one till tommorow before trying to help him

I'm still waiting for my different types of hygrometers to arrive, it's so difficult finding them locally

Let us know how he is doing tomorrow, you may need to bust him out.

I too have a hard time finding things locally. I live in the middle of nowhere, so pretty much everything has to be ordered!! :D

Peeled a little off but he's curled up do you think I should help him

I would go ahead and peel off a bit more, as long as there isn't any blood flowing. If it's all shell, he may be good to go, but just can't get out. So take your time and peel off a bit at a time and see what happens. Good luck!!!!

He's out shell was very dry he's curled up in a ball still and not moving much yet

]Sounds like he was too dried out to hatch. I would get him out of the brooder and under a heat lamp. Temp of about 100 F or 38 C . You might wrap him in a damp paper towel for a couple hours. Dont leave him alone when wrapped and keep an eye on him. I hope he makes it!! :-)
