I agree 100% on both counts.

Yikes, rosyposy! Sounds like some nasty squirrels; the only trouble we really have with them around here is eating bird seed out of feeders.

So you're saying we should let their populations get even LARGER? You don't think there's enough deer already? Maybe you should spend a few hours in our woods. Whew!

And do you know that car accidents involving deer get PEOPLE killed?! And if there's even more bobcats around, that'd be putting people like my little brother and sister in danger, as well as pets. And if we can stop it, why would we let our family, pets, and livestock be killed or SERIOUSLY injured? They may look pretty, but bobcats and other predatory animals are NOT nice critters to have around.

Maybe I'm confused, but you mean take it to the vet to have it euthanized? Like a pet?

To a person like me, that does not make a whole lot of sense.

I was being sarcastic but what you said was my point exactly

Kathy,
I think a well placed bullet is the most humane in that siutation. The stress of travel to a vet is not worth it to the animal.

Humanely euthanizing doesnt nessecarily mean a needle. It means doing it as quickly and as painlessly possible. I would think a bullet is better than the drowning method...the aniaml instict and fear have to kick in on a drowning animal.

Again, JMO....

Woa, a little late on the draw here (this thread sure is moving fast...), but a firearm can be used for sport/competition as well! Going to the range and competing against some other people is a very fun time!

By the way, killing a person is a homicide/murder. There is a such thing as justifiable homicide. Justifiable homicide is NOT a prisonable offense, it is exactly that, justified. Still technically a homocide though...

It always strikes me as funny when people proudly exclaim that they'd never own a firearm.

And one last thing, how is shooting something in the manner in such it is dead before it hits the ground inhumane?

After 8 pages I am a little tired, but let me get this straight...
It's OK for predatory animals (Coons, bobcats, possums, etc.) to kill innocent wild animals like squirrels, chipmunks, field mice, CHICKENS in what usually amounts to a very inhumane and painful process. I believe they like to tear apart their victims and eat them while alive...BUT as humans (the top predator) we should not protect our livestock by humanely eliminating a predator? Please help me make sense of your arguments...

omg. i am so tired of this. no killing is right. ok? but some is. a bobcat kills your chickens, you kill the bobcat - but the least you could do is do it nicely and not brag about it on a freakin chicken forum. you should not be bragging how you killed a living thing.

I'm sorry about your losses and about the bobcat, she sure was beautiful. You did what you had to do though.

Edited to add: I suggested this to okiechick too about her coyote thread. When people get into a heated argument about a topic I just delete the entire thread. Then we can all go back to chicken talk!
