Bobcat is back... and he's all grown up

Yeah they have routes. Good thing is once you trap them they will not come back. Bobcats are easily attracted to bobcat urine. Place it in the trap, he will go in, get caught, be mad, and once you relocate them, they won’t be back.

thanks, this is great information! I had no idea about the bobcat urine. I have heard from a couple local friends experienced in these matters that they use a live chicken as bait-- it's kept safe in a separate section of the (large) trap. Honestly I would feel bad for the poor bait chicken. They say a banty roo is best. But I'd hate to have one so stressed.

I bought the cheapest one Walmart had, and feel lucky that it works as well as it does. Sometimes I get pictures of "nothing" which I assume is the wind blowing something. Some pictures are sharper than others, and sometimes there are inexplicable changes in the lighting within seconds of each shot. But overall, happy with hit, especially since it was only about $30. If I remember correctly it was on sale.

The bad thing about having a game cam is that I sort of wish I'd never known about all the things that are out there at night. I don't mind seeing the bunnies. The armadillo was interesting and not scary. Raccoons send a cold chill, because I learned the hard way how bad they can be. And a bobcat is pretty much off the chart uncomfortable.

I know what you mean about ignorance is bliss, unfortunately I had a live show of a bobcat chasing one of my hens but all was well. Also I knew a mountain lion with her cub was around the hood, 2 days later I saw their tracks right in front of my porch... dog wouldn't come out of her house lol smart one lol

Do not relocate. It may be illegal, but even if not a relocated cat will return and will be trap shy/educated.

This thing scares me to death. But so far no losses. I know he can't come through the fence-- it's no climb covered in hardware cloth that's trenched and set in concrete. The entire top has aviary netting, which is zip tied to the fence. I think my fear is that it leaps over the fence, onto the aviary netting. I think the netting would hold the weight, but not sure it would hold up to claws during a struggle.

These are why my run is covered with hardware cloth. Raccoons can easily climb and its nothing for them to rip through netting or even chicken wire.

Maybe it wasn't a bobcat? Maybe a Mountain Lion? Small female?

Bobcats are normally solitary animals and will not share territory with each other. Females especially. Male territories sometimes inter lap but rarely.

Yes, the camera takes 3 shots in quick succession. I got three shots of him headed to the left, then 7 minutes later, headed back to the right. I'm not happy he spent seven minutes over the left, since that's where my chicken pen is. Seven minutes is way too much interest.

60#? The average weight is less than 30, that must have been a mutant!

Nope,, just a grown big fat well fed cat. they can get up to 24" and 60 lbs. Not usual I guess, usual is 20-40 adult weights. At least that has been usual for well fed Bobs in SE Kansas. That was the biggest one I have seen around here. A common height for adult male is 18". Good luck with catching him. they do love chickens, turkey and young fawns.

Bobcat urine is the best way to catch these things. They hate intruders in their territory. Had to relocate a few here in Indiana for people. They even go after newborn calf’s and kids.
