Me, being the ol' laid back country feller I am............I'm just amazed when I read about somebody wanting to have quail, and there has to be consideration of a neighbor or 3 that might have a problem with the beautiful sounds these birds make (and I'm speaking mainly about Bobs cause that's all I've been around). I understand there are ordinances for this and ordinances for that (and some are good, and some are sooooo dedgum stupid, I might add)............but I feel so blessed to not have to contend with permits or ordinances that dis-allow "very vocal but natural" gamebirds ... (except a peacock...LOL). I've read so many testimonies such as this thread, and think it's a shame everybody can't have the liberty to have a pen full of gamebirds without have to worry about offending somebody.

dowellmj, I hope your dreams are fullfilled, and you have my condolences if there are neighbors that have a problem hearing one of Mother Nature's most gifted sounds.....

Having to curb ones lifestyle or desires there of for the neighbors is like a breach in the contract of life. We all should be able to express ourselves in the manner that we see fit in life, while respecting everyone else's way of life. And of course this is a very touchy subject because one man's idea of living out his life can be a nightmare for his neighbors!

As for me, my nearest neighbor is 5 miles away and some times I think THAT is too close. I want to be able to do what I need to do in life with no restrictions. My Bob's wake me up each morning, the males crowing their little hearts at 5 am and I love that. And the ARE loud. I want to be able to run around buck necked, wee off the porch and target practice from my back stoop. If I had neighbors I would probably have to shoot them. (JUST KIDDING!!!)

Well, sorry to get off topic here, but I am pretty passionate about people needing space in life to do what they need to do in life. And I hope that you Dowellmj, get to keep your two cute quail and that your passion grows for them into many more quail.

Bill, (who's going to go pee off the deck just cuz I can!!! )

Lol, u r absolutely correct and the funny thing is that I have been keeping silkies for the last few years and as a result 2 people in the neighborhood have also started keeping them so with suburbia needing to get back to it's roots, it can go both ways!

How true this is! However, 2 females calling "Bobwhite" will never be as loud as even one chicken.
