About a month ago I bought some Bobwhites from a man that had them in a tiny cage along with baby pigs, rabbits, chickens, etc. They were all stuffed in a van.The conditions were horrific. He drove from flea market to flea market with them and that van is the only home those animals knew.It cost me 6$ a bird just to get the quail.I think that was his gimmick.Make people feel sorry for them so they would by them.I reported the cruelty but I dont know if anything was done about it.Anyways there were several dead birds already in the cage so I quarantined them and have been doing my best to nurse them back to health but now one of my other groups of birds have started dying as well.I started giving them Sulmet ,penicillin-g,duramycin and wormer at different times but even though some seem to be getting better, some are getting worse.Ive been opening them up and couldnt see anything out of the ordinary until last week.On ones liver it had yellow spots on it and the,I guess the small intestine, was filled with a cheesy looking substance and covered in popped blood vessels. The one that died this morning looked like he just starved himself to death.I'm not one to ask anybody for help but if anyone has any ideas about this problem please feel free to help. Thanks Rob

[IMG] I am sorry it isn't under better circumstances. I am not quite sure what is causing this but it sounds very infectious. Did you notice any symptoms before they died?

The birds would just stop eating and i cant figure out why.The only thing I can get them to eat are boiled eggs and they wont eat very many of them.I think Im going to sterilize there cage this weekend when I get a chance but I dont know what other kind of meds to give them.I was told it may be blackhead but that was rare in quail and I dont know anything about it.

I recommend posting on the quail forum. In particular, "quailladyoffortmyers" is, to me, an authority on quail of all kind.

The man probably sold you sick birds on purpose. I know its hard to resist when you see birds in such poor conditions, but its usually not the best idea to buy them. [IMG]
