Well, I have petstore stock. I was going to get some breeders from Rysratties, but she dropped out and went into rescue apparantly. Funny though, I see your post about her, lol. The other thing about her was the fact that she was breeding TRUE hairless females, and loosing entire litters. I can understand breeding a hairless female and using a wet nurse female to raise the litter, but, with all of the issues that true hairless rats have, there's just no point in even trying to breed a hairless female and allowing her to attempt to raise the litter. Plus the fact that some of her rats, she was unsure about genetics, like, she didn't know if they were true hairless or double rex.

I've BEEN wanting to find more true hairless rats though, for my own purposes, but, most breeders won't sell a rat if they know that you have snakes and intend to cull off extras. Same with most of the other varieties. So, it's just easier on me to get healthy petstore stock.

Either way, I have only unknown lines, but if you'd like some, you're more than welcome to them. I have one girl who is a total biotch, but she has been producing excellent litters (usually has more than 20) and they always turn out to be the sweetest babies, lol. I haven't had any health issues with these guys either, despite doing "unethical" breeding, such as breeding unknown lines of highwhites. I don't breed to sell to anyone else for pets, but they do all seem to be better pets than some of the ones that I've picked up from "ethical and reputable" breeders, if you don't count the one nasty female, lol.

she's a rescue eh....so yeah that explains why i still see ads from her saying "we have too many babies buy 3 and get one free etc....." "babies coming soon from our breeders..." I gave two of my favorite last rats to her....Lucky (on my site) and Clark (his son) she turned right around and sold them....good thing was who she sold them too I also knew and she was a decient person...she kept lucky and clark.....and lucky died at 2 1/2 years old Clark last i heard was still goin.

Yeppers I realize your ratties are petstore stock that's what mine were, but wheni do get back into them i'll also be getting show stock but i'd love to start from scratch again as well. And since you're already working on colors I was into before that's exciting to me!

I wish i could get back into them now but my mom has a thing about rats. She loves them but hates thier smell and our house is small so I had to rehome my last two and hence why im still not back into them....we lived on our own when i had my rattery (rented) now we rent here and "no rats" lol! I had a problem with high whites, and I didnt even mean for it to happen, my male Howard (im sur eyou saw him on my site), I bred to a hooded girl and got several blazes,, spotteds and such, all of the blazed ones died from the high white issue, but the one made it and i sold her to a breeder in NY who i dont thikn breeds anymore. I stopped talking to her because she had her rats crammed in cages and the males chewed the does tails off through the wire trying to get to them. Im glad you ddint get from Ry...you would have been dealing with that illness rats get the treatable one but still not fun to have and deal with......and her discription on the one hairless she got it sounded like that one disease "SDA" i think its called...im having a hard time remembering genetics of rats and illnesses it's been so long....i miss it more thani can say. When we first started out with them i just wanted to breed one litter, and it became a huge facination and i started a big breeding thing but i planned my litters well, my last breedingi was stupd and bred 3 does at one time...and wouldnt you guess they all three had HUGE litters and I only got 2 does out of all of those litters!LOL! i had a hard time finding them homes when we were moving but i found a home for everyone and kept my two favorites...I would have kept howard but he was aggressive to other males and i wanted to keep two males that i could keep together without fighting. It was fun getting interviewed for our local newspaper on them too

I still have the paper

Hubby HATED the rats wheni first got them...their tails...lol...when the first litter showed up and they opened their lil twinkly eyes and wanted to crawl all over us he fell in love....he talks about them more than I do now and cant wait to get back into them
