Recommendation on source for quail eggs?

The popularity of the browns/pharoahs is why there's a waiting list for those eggs and not for the whites. I don't recall if MyShire uses supplemental lighting, but even with that, the birds also slow down a bit on egg laying during winter.

I'm in NW PA. Close to OH, close to NY.
Like the title says... any sources nearby? I stopped at the local co-op hoping to find a note on the bulletin board and when I mentioned to a couple guys what I was looking for I got looks as if I was talking about inventing a free fuel source. "What do you do with quail? Can you eat them?"

I tried a couple big name online sources and one doesn't return emails and the other said early summer. And then there was the problem they only use USPS. It's not like they are shipping live birds. Just eggs.

Not that I'm ready for eggs now, but probably in a few weeks give or take.

Has anyone bought off Ebay or Amazon? Last resort, but maybe there's someone from here selling through those sites. Or a trusted seller someone has used.

Any help or leads would be appreciated.
I don't know if I would necessarily recommend them, as I haven't bought eggs in ages, and only ever got one batch of eggs, but when I had quails I got them from Pine Hill in Coshocton, Ohio.

I have ordered from Myshire and Bryant's Roost and had good success with both. It's normal for this time of year for everyone to be booked out quite a ways.

Yeah, I can understand that.
But like I said earlier, I think, If the whites are laying eggs and fertilizing them, why aren't the browns?

Are orders that far out, or egg production?

Anyway, I'll give this Ebay place a try.
But first look into Bryant's Roost. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think the brown quail tend to follow more of the natural seasonal patterns, similar to wild quail, where they slow down or even stop laying during certain parts of the year. On the other hand, the white quail, especially the jumbo whites, seem to be bred more for captivity, focused on consistent egg production or meat production. I keep my jumbo whites outside year-round starting at 4 weeks old (if it doesn't drop below 50 at night), with no supplemental lighting, and while they may not lay every day, they typically lay 6or7 eggs out of 7 days. They're more adapted to consistent production regardless of the season.

Do you keep Quail for : Eggs, Meat, Pet, Flight birds for hunting...?

Awesome.
I phoned them up, had a great conversation with Mike, and he said they might even go out next week :thumbsup
A much more reasonable number of eggs, too. I ordered 36. He starts at 18.

So that's two things I did today to get started.
The other being:

I may have been off on my lumber count.
They were out of 8 footers (on account of the tariff induced buying frenzy they said), so I had to get 16 footers. And then when I found out the price of 2x2's, I decided to get more 2x4's and rip them down. But better too many than not enough. I had a coupon. Plus it's always good to have extra stuff on hand.

I'm sure their browns are just as busy laying and fertilizing eggs as their whites, but more people want the browns due to being feather sexable. You're not the only person wanting to get eggs and others apparently got in line sooner. MyShire will eventually catch up with demand and be able to start accepting orders again, but for now it's a waiting game. As you discovered with Thieving Otter, other hatching egg sellers are going to be experiencing the same supply/demand issue. When I ordered eggs from MyShire in April 2022, I had been waiting for some time for them to start accepting orders again. It still took about 7 weeks before they shipped.

They are. The thing is, there are only so many birds to lay the eggs, and the number of orders is so high that there aren't enough eggs to ship right away.

Thanks for the breeding info :)
That makes sense. I had thought there was only a color difference and everything else was the same.

Primarily eggs (I used to keep a few hens way back when), but I think also meat. That's why I wanted to get my birds earlier rather than wait til summer. So I can decide if I want to hatch another batch and fill up the freezer.
