How long does it take for Bobwhites to start laying eggs? Is there anything I need to do to help them? Right now I have 2 roos and 4 hens about a year old I think. Thanks!

They can be slow to lay--- its still a bit early in the year for many parts of the country. As long as you have them on a good game bird feed they should be covered. If you like the idea of oyster shell now would be the time to provide it so they can be stocked up and gettin ready for the main event

I'm a novice at this, but I put a 250w red heat lamp on mine 24/7 back in late Jan. when it was so cold here, and within a week or so, I started getting eggs out the wazoo (whatever a wazoo is....ha!). Anywho, I let it go on for a couple of weeks to get some eggs to pickle.........then cut the light, and it took about a week and a half to two weeks for the egg dropping to slow down and finally stop. Haven't had one since until today......found one. But, highs here are getting into the 70's pretty regular too.........and, the days are getting longer too.

Mine just laid their first egg today! YAY I have them with a 100w lightbulb to complete the 17 hours of light they need, it took them a little more than three weeks tho for their first egg since i moved them to where there at now, you just have to be patient eggs will come!!!!!!!!!!

You may want to split those into trios. Bobs can get pretty fiesty during breeding season. I've had males scalp females that mate another male.

they are warm season layers. I'm in NC and mine haven't started yet. Most don't lay until after they are a year old as well.

I have my lights set on a timer which gives them 17 hours of light and regulate the temp to no lower than 65 deg F. They lay every day and have been since I got them in Jan.
