In the interest of learning more about my chickens I'm wondering about an egg I got today. This is from Lucy, my 3 year old Australorp. She lays sizable torpedos fairly often (probably a few times a week) but this is the first one I've gotten with a nobbly bit on the end of it. Is this what is considered a body checked egg? And would it be because of her age? I know that the white speckles are likely from excess calcium - it appears to happen for a few days after I offer them crushed eggshells so I think that I might be giving them too much at once.

Ideas? Comments?
