It's not caused by cold weather. I'm in Austin, Tx and it's been between 100 and 105 F out all summer. Hardboiled an egg, cut it in half. Yolk was yellow on the outside, had orange ring, and yellow center.
Anyone ever figure this out my girls have just started laying and when I boiled some eggs this morning for the children the yolks had this bright orange line in them.
This has happened to me, too, recently. The yolk will be cooked but has an orange ring around it--it looks like yellow yolk that you drew a ring with an orange marker on. Mine has some yellow outside the ring, too. Looks strange. The hen laying these eggs has had a dirty bottom lately--not poopy, it just isn't smooth and clean looking. I also notice a smear of feces on the side of the nest box, so I wonder if she has something else going on? She is free range and I put out regular layer pellets for them. It's been very wet here lately, and they all seem to go where it's wet,but they have almost an acre of ground total and have lots of dry ground to scratch around. They are out under pear and apple trees and only one side of the area is wet. Lots of leaves along the fence for them to stir up for worms and bugs. These eggs taste fine, just look strange.
