Hey guys! I haven't been around in a long time. I have quietly been reading the forums again and decided to reactivate my account. So I figured I better do another intro.

Going on 5 years raising our brood. Lucy and Ethel (lucy is my avatar) have both passed on. Ethel ended up being the tamest and more of a pet. She was quite the character. Nicknamed feather dog for a reason. Unfortunately one summer day she became to stress and died. I can only assume she had heat stroke. We learned from that and made sure to get a large old tire with sand and wet the sand every day in the summer, and add ice blocks to the sand and their water. They love that. Lucy and Ethel were a pair, and named appropriately (although their names should have been reversed lol) After Ethel died, Lucy became depressed and stopped laying. Even though we had 10 other chickens around her, she just didn't do well. She lived a good while longer but eventually passed away. We think she got egg bound. She did lay the largest eggs ever and would occasionally have issues with that.

We have added to the bunch and had some die by natural causes, one by an owl, or be culled since then. We currently have 11 laying hens. 3 white leghorns, 5 easter eggers, 3 rhode island reds. 15 babies that are 2 white leghorns, 4 easter eggers, 3 black australorp, 3 barred rock, 3 golden star. Most of them are 4.5 weeks, and 2 EEs and the BRs are 2 weeks. I have been paying extra attention to the new babies in the hopes of getting some more Ethels out of the group. I think I am well on the way. A couple of the BAs, EEs, GSs and BRs will just sit on me and nap, or climb on me willingly. I have a few pics of a particular BA sitting on my head lol. Needless to say I have been having fun with the babies. Just impatiently waiting for it to warm up a little bit more so we can move the older ones outside to the temporary coop. They are quickly out growing the garage set up. The youngest are still in a spare room inside.

Hopefully I can stay more active here this time and get to know you guys. We are just simple "backyarders" on a farmstead. No purebred or show chickens. Just for eggs here, and fun of course :)
