Bone (?) growing out of her wattles?

I just noticed today that my 5 month hen seems to have a bone or something growing out of her chin. When I pull it to the side it looks like raw flesh under it. There is sand stuck to one side. I don’t know what it is or what to do. Any thoughts on what this could be?

Did you just notice it or has it been growing? It wouldn’t grow out like that overnight.

To me it looks like something is pierced into the skin under the beak making it swollen.

Could it possibly be her tongue (that's dried hard)? I've seen cases where birds get a tear under their beaks and the tongue falls through and hardens.

Have you checked inside her beak at all? I would look to see if the tongue is still there.

If the tongue is fine and nothing looks “off” inside her beak, I would try to soak the area with warm water. Clean it really good and see if will come out or off.

Edited: that definitely is the shape of a tongue. See if it softens with warm water or coconut oil.

Okay I’ll try it. If it is the tongue, what do I do then?
