Just started the lockdown today of my first eggs in my home made incubator..... yeah. Went to work. Here in central Ohio we have been having pop-up thunder storms and the power went out. No one was home. We think it was for two hours. What my question is ARE MY BABBIES GOING TO MAKE IT? I think I know the answer, but would like to take the road to denial and have some one tell me it's going to be OK.

They should be fine as long as the incubator stayed closed. They may be delayed a few hours though. Broodies get off the nests almost every day and they hatch out just fine.

If it was only 2 hours and the incubator didn't get opened they should be fine. It takes quite a while for the core temperature of the egg to drop and as a previous poster said, broody hens get off the nest frequently without causing any harm to the embryos. Good luck with your hatch!

I think you are good to go unless the next few storms put the power out again. If you are home when it happens, you could have heat packs on hand.

Up date we made it. The first one before midnight last night (6-30-13), second by three. I just got up and have a total of five with one in mid hatch and another pip but quiet. So seven out of twelve so far. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance I do appreciate it thanks. Can't wait for the grandkids to get up this is going to be fun.
