Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, All Herding breeds, Tell Me About Yours

A boxer is the perfect match to either a border collie or an Aussie. They run and play and tire each other out. :)

That does sound like it would make it way easier on me. :lau

Though I imagine two BCs might do that too. And I’ve heard it’s fun having two herding breeds or two of one breed cause they have the same play style and their own games/language and it’s fun watching them play herding breed games with each other. :)

But I think having two might wear me out LOL

Heck, I think even another high energy breed like a boxer would wear me out lol

I’m sure they probably wear each other out though like you said but still.

I think I probably need a high energy or intense breed and a more mellow breed. Like maybe a BC or Aussie and then a Golden or Lab or something lol still fairly high energy or at least needing a lot of exercise but nowhere near as intense lol

Although that said, I’ve heard some of the herding breeds don’t really like retriever types or even like boxers cause they’re all big goofy puppy types/have a totally different play style and/or play a bit rough and the herding breeds like order and rules!? :lau

My first boxer mixed well with my border collie. My second boxer and my first Aussie were great friends. My second Aussie loved that second boxer, and Rosie my third, although they didn't play much. Mostly Frankie and Rosie chased the ball. Rosie ran around the yard with it and Frankie brought it back after Rosie dropped it. They were a good team.

Sunny the Aussie and Rosie the boxer have always played well together. A boxer loves to just run wide open in circles. The herding breeds give chase and try to catch the boxer. That's why they mesh well. I don't know about sporting breeds as we haven't had any here

Labs became very popular, and there are very different types. To simplify; busy labs, and quiet labs. Then some nasty ones, but not as frequently found. Pick your type, and then look at health screening within that type. Usually the kinda stubby 'English labs' are quieter, and the rangy labs are busy. Exceptions happen though.
Goldens vary too, and health screening is very important there. Some breeders are also screening with DNA testing relating to some of the cancers that are rampant in this breed, so check that if you can.
I have met a few very nasty Goldens, a very unpleasant surprise.
Mixes may or may not be 'healthier'. My last lab mix wasn't.

Yep: brains and that innate willingness to please humans working together. I am partial myself! I love my Papillons too but I don't see me never having a Border Collie.

Accidents happen even with the best owner. Don't beat yourself up.

He was a darling little dog, looks a little like a parti colored Pomeranian?
ok:hugs

Yes that's what breed he was. :).

:lau very true!! We have a long hallway and a couple staircases and we also have kind of a loop/racetrack in that the hall also connects to the dining room and kitchen making a loop and we also have an island in the kitchen so you can make the loop bigger if you want to soooo..... I could send the dog around the loop or up and down the stairs a ton. :lau wears a little dog out faster LOL big dog... maybe. If you do it enough. :lau
Our place is the same way except the kids play racetrack.:gig

That’s very true! Herding dogs do not like dogs coming at them head on and getting in their faces. Mine hate that! The other herding breeds seem to be respectful of that and never approach them like that. Eye contact is a big thing also. It’s interesting to observe how some breeds acknowledge this and some are oblivious. I have the most trouble with the sweet oblivious retrievers and mini-schnauzers lol! The schnauzers always act friendly and then decide they don’t like anybody

This has been my experience. My herding dogs have always not really wanted to interact with boxers and labs. They prefer he play style of other dogs more like them.

That said, I am sure if your dogs lived together and were very familiar with each other that would be less of an issue and they would find a common play style.

Hey been gone all day at friends missed allot I can tell

She's very talkative, grumbling & making growling noises but not in a nasty way, I think it's just her way of communicating. She looks straight at me & barks once & I know she needs to go outside. I just can't stop her from chewing on me, it doesn't hurt, I've tried everything from giving her toys to a firm "No" but it's all a game to her. Hope she stop before her adult teeth come through.

The word Ouch has to be loud to shock the dog but it works
