This is river my dog she is a mix all I know I she is part wolf but what else? She has a purple and pink tongue. I have been looking through this thread and have a question sorry if it’s off topic
But there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable dog people here

Her face looks all scrunchy to me like a chow plus the purple tongue so I do think she has at least some chow but she also looks malamute. Also are you sure she’s wolf? Not doubting you at all but a lot of “wolf dogs” don’t actually have any wolf content and a lot of the people that sell them falsely advertise because they’re so popular. But she’s gorgeous either way. The side profile of her face does look a bit snipey like a shepherd or collie so she could possibly have those breeds as well. But I think she’s probably a bit of chow and a lot of malamute and probably several other things.

Hybrid to me..Wolf/Chow is a possible mix.

Nop you would be blown away to do DNA on may the say are wolf and non in them both siberian and malamute are often in them not a wolf DNA research was my thing

Yup, sadly a lot of unscrupulous breeders will breed northern breed mixes or shepherd mixes and label them “wolf dogs” because they’re very popular and can make a ton of money.

This one very well could be, hard to tell from looks alone because they all look different, but true wolf dogs aren’t that common and good breeders also will sell them by content (high, mid, low, etc. content) rather than by exact percentages so that’s a red flag too.

DNA test would be the only way to be sure. Many dogs, especially mixes, can look nothing like their mix, and the results are often surprising.

But that said, most of the DNA tests out there really aren’t accurate. There’s only really two accurate ones. Those are Wisdom Panel and Embark. Embark also does a lot of health testing and various other genetic info which is handy but it’s very expensive.

I say she’s likely malamute/chow, with or without wolf.

But she’s beautiful either way.

Anyone ever own a rough collie? Lots of coat on them. They have fallen out of popularity in the last couple of decades. It seems to have coincided with the heads getting more narrow? I saw one today watching Dr. Pol, pretty dog.

They’re beautiful dogs.

I also like scotch collies/old time scotch collie (OTSC)/farm collies. And they usually have not as narrow faces which I like haha I also like English shepherds. I think they’re all similar. I get confused by all the farm collie type dogs cause a lot of them look really similar to Aussies and BC too. There is a lot of variation and overlap between breeds haha
