Boring egg question

Hi! I have a few black Australorps who lay these beautiful brown eggs with little faded white spots. When I wash them, the spots turn dark brown. Once the egg dries, the spots disappear again. Just curious what could be happening here. I know the appearance can sometimes change once the bloom washes off, but the spots appear every time I wet the egg, and disappear once it dries!

The bloom layer conceals the pigment freckles on the egg, bloom is clear when wet, semi opaque when dry.

Bloom doesn't wash off easily, it actually takes some scrubbing to do that, it's a clear protective coating called the cuticle. Most think its comes off once the egg is wet, but it's pretty hardy. The bloom is what's causing your appearing, & disappearing spots. I love these eggs.

Really! And here I thought if you got the egg wet the bloom was destroyed! Thank you for this. I learn here every day.

Wow, that's so good to know! I definitely thought rinsing took the bloom off. I'm new to chickens, and always get worried when they get rained on! Thank you!! The disappearing spots are always such a fun surprise!
