My Bantam doesn't "get it".
When I gave the birds the seeds tonite she gobbled them whole

Will this hurt her? Now I'm worried that I'll wake up to a sick chicken.
They do get grit, will that help her to digest them this evening?
Think I'll smash them first next time.

Chickens don't crack the BOSS like songbirds. They eat them whole. As long as they have grit, they are fine. They grind it up. I give mine BOSS everyday, and I have a LOT of bantams.

I NEVER find a whole or part of a BOSS in their poo.

my chickens eat them whole as well, I don't think its an issue at all. that is what the gizzard is for crushing everything up as it goes down. I have been feeding mine boss for a while now, and no issues.

From what I know, it's more of a sight and texture thing rather than taste. Chickens have a sense of taste, but it's pretty weak.
