Boston Ferns?

I was putting some fall leaves in the chickens run. They loved them, they are currently scattering them around. Would it be okay to put some potted Boston ferns in the run for them to scratch at and keep busy and occupied with?

What other kind of bedding is in the run?

Oh if there is any perlite or other soil additives, I'd not put there in there.

They are using pine in their coop, but in the run they have some pine and some autumn leaves. No the ferns don’t have any supplements or additives. Thank you very much for the response
