Saline solution won't burn the eyes if you have the right concentration. I use it on my own eyes every morning (I wear contact lenses). It'd be the same as our own tears, since Chickens don't have tear ducts (never seen one cry, at least).
Here you go, I found the forum thread that mentions it:
ChicknGurl.. Ohhhh.. I got it now! LOL. I had this terrible visions of burning and blinding the chick for life! Please tell me.. How much is a quart? A quart of what? (I know water) I got a online conversion, but it say nothing of "quarts"
This is most helpful.. Thank you so much for taking the time to find it.
Flufnstuffs~FluffySilkies.. I do not receive your PM's. There is nothing in my inbox. I do know I will receive a email. I do not know why I don't receive PM's.. So sorry!
It's 250mg..I open the it and pour it in a suringe(no needle). I'm putting a few drop in her mouth. I do it 2 times a day. He also has her on doxycycline. It's for people too. I did it the same way. That way I know she is getting it. When I put it in the suringe, I add enough water to almost fill the suringe but have enough room to shake it up. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your baby..
Saline will help, boric acid in the eye wash will help too. And that's in human eye wash, if you can get it. If you can even just get the boric acid, you can make your own eye wash with it. I don't remember the percentages, but can find out, if you need it. An old chicken farmer here told me to use boric acid wash for eye problems when we first started with chickens.
