Both Feed Stores are out of Chick Grit, Chicks outside on dirt, do they really need it?

I would also suggest that if you are still talking young, not-yet-egglaying birds who don't need the extra calcium, you're better off with grit instead of oyster shell. I know too much calcium in the feed of growing birds can cause bone issues. I'd imagine it would be the same if their only grit option was oyster shell.

Oops. I do that from time to time, focus in on a part of the answer and forget the rest. Yes the more acid resistant the grit the longer it lasts.
