Both my ducks have been panting unless in the pool.

Per all your advice I went with the watermelon box and boy was that a pain to get. Thank goodness for Costco!! They love it.

Looks great though. I was thinking maybe they need a different feeder their bills might be too large to eat out of the chick feeder now. a shallow pan or a rubber live stock bowl would work. and do you know the temp in your brooder/watermelon box?

They had a dog dish I used this again because they seemed to like it better but I'll try that again

I'm not exactly sure I don't have a thermometer atm.

Just wondering in the heat we are experiencing a heat lamp may not even be needed but i see your in WA. it maybe cooler there. It's hot here. If they can fit their bills into it to eat then by all means keep the chick feeder How old are your ducklings?

It ain't cool here at all!!! We're experiencing highs in the 90's. I think the heat lamp can safely be turned off for the time being. I love the dog dish, perfect depth for them to dip their heads into! We use tall anchored cocktail glasses for Wobbles, but they're indoor babies so I guess they get the Hilton treatment. :p

They were born May 23 it's hot here during the day and at night it can be 55-60's the heat lamp is adjustable and they don't seem to be panting or hot like they were in the garage.

Where are you located! It's been 70s and 80s here so it's been nice thy normally swimor a while then dry off in the yard and sometimes hide under the patio table to get some shade.

I'm in Redmond, northeast of Seattle. It was MISERABLE last week, both me and the duckies were roasting! Poor dears were panting and running to the fan every five minutes. I put ice in their water cups but Bean was scared of them so I took it out. She's....she's not terribly bright.

Thankfully it's still been warm but not as insufferable as it was last week. But the summer is still young, and I weep to think of how bad it'll get, and me with no air conditioner!

I set up a misting wand in the yard for my ducks. I'm in kent, wa and the ducks were panting even in the shade. The misting wand helps keep them cool. My three week old ducklings don't even get a heat lamp anymore. I have them outside in a rabbit cage do they can be exposed to the flock but be protected from the big ducks.
