Bought my bator just now!

i got 1 of those about 3 weeks ago with the fan, turner, and candler.already hatched 1 guinea (slate x pearl) and 1 BO.have a staggered hatch going on to get the hang of it all.7 more chicks and 12 more guineas ready to hatch in 8 days.

I just got back from the auction and landed 2 dozen RIR hatching eggs for 5 dollars a dozen! The bator is now full with 9 silver laced cochins, 13 partridge cochins, and 21 RIR. I actually had 3 extra RIR eggs so I gave them to one of our Bared rock layers that has gone to sitting unfertile eggs. I marked the eggs then removed the unfertile eggs and gave her the fertile eggs. We shall see if she continues to sit.

UPS site says it is out for delivery, so I am sitting here waiting on it. Did you put eggs in yours right off the bat? Wow! I am very nervous. How did you put the fan in? I just want to get mine set up and tinker with it till the eggs get here so I know how to adjust it and add water and all the important stuff. USP has been know to run later in the day here. If it was in regualar post I would have had it at 10 this morning. Oh well. I found some free guineas this morning, and all the guinea eggs I can hatch. My friend has them running out his ears and does not want anymore, the one hen is sitting on 20 or so eggs right now and he said I can have all of them as well as all the eggs I want. But I will be setting my silkie eggs about the 13 of Oct. I just hope I hatch some of them. Good luck with your hatch though.

The directions for installing the fan are very good. I set mine up and ran it for 24 hours to stablize the temp and humidity. I filled it with eggs the next day. can't wait 21 days. I plan on candling on the 28th.

I am just now finishing my first hatch with my hovabator (no fan, no auto egg-turner), and I got great results. I started with 13 of my own silkie/polish eggs. After 1 week, candles and lost 2 to bacterial infections. All were fertile though (I love my roos!). Now it's day 20 and 8 of 11 have hatched, last 3 have pipped, so almost done! It's so much fun, and there is so much good advice on this site- definitely helped me get through this hatch. My only complaint is the variation of temperature with the hovabator. However, having a good first hatch now, so can't complain too much! Good luck with yours, it's a lot of fun.

Tim was this meant for me? I was sure I told you I did not keep white or any other breed via email? I appreciated the offer but do not have anywhere to put other breeds or colors. I let all my white go to make room for b/b/s. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding, I do not want anyone upset with me.

i am very sorry, i never got the email, or i confused you with someone else. please forgive me. if you get more guinea eggs than you can handle i would be glad to have them. my bators are empty. if have a hova also, i will try to reply if i can help in the furure.

how did you wire the fan. running constant or on and off with the thermostat. i tried mine both ways. only difference i found was fan running all the time i had to add water more often.
