Looks like a Production Red.And I have no idea what breed they are lol. They are all pullets, as far as I can tell by wing shape. They are about 4 days old. Any breed whisperers out there? View attachment 2569748

Yes, but the unfortunate trade off for high production is that hens frequently have reproduction issues that can be fatal and usually drop dead 2 years after they start laying. at least that's my experienceOooh...good to know! But high production is definitely what I'm after

TSC sells a lot of those breeds. I got my ISA Browns there, and they are great egg layers, and I think they are so pretty, too.AKA production reds, ISA browns, cinnamon queens, and golden comets.

There are a lot of variables in play, though- feed, if you force laying through the winter, etc. They're not just like 'Welp, it's been two years of egg laying, guess I'll just keel over!'Yes, but the unfortunate trade off for high production is that hens frequently have reproduction issues that can be fatal and usually drop dead 2 years after they start laying. at least that's my experience

Don’t get scared. While it is true that that happens, good care goes a long way toward keeping them fit and healthy. You will find a lot of folks here have these birds and they are 5 years old and up.That is...not ideal![]()
