I found some White and Buff Silkies at a local feed store and mom was like, "Want to get a couple?"

I'm so excited! I have one white and one buff!

Their names are Puffy the Buff (I told my little brother he could name the Buff one

And Snow

As you may have guessed Snow is the white one

Well... Anyway they are trying to eat the pine shavings

Is this normal? Any advise for the new babies besides the food and water?

Thanks!!!

Two leads to a lot more. I now have ten silkies as well as several other breeds! Chickens are like potato chips:

That is so EXCITING!!!! I'm glad you got more than one.

Put down a puppy pad or paper towels and sprinkle a little food on that until they learn what the food is. Although, they may have been eating that at the feed store.

My two silkies that are 4 wks old now (black and buff) like to lay in the pellets or on the tube sock I have folded in half over itself rather than roost. Not sure if they will continue that when older.

Remember, I had to crush the crumbles smaller for them and just stopped this week. When they were itty bitty they would just peck at the crumbles until I started crushing it to make it smaller (almost powder like) then they would just attack it and gobble it down.

I started the meal worms and grit at 3 wks. They LOVE those and come running to my hand now. My buff is a little skiddish when held - but will relax if I hold her/him with the black silkie and black cochin.

Mine didn't like the brooder as warm as my standard chicks did. They liked it 85-80 to start rather then 95-90.

You enjoy and show us some pics when you get a chance.

Same with ours!

They dont like the heat, their panting

I LOVE them!

Also, they are pretty big... like almost the size of my hand (And im just a kid so..)

They're eating and drinking and seem happy and healthy!!
