My beautiful Sebright rooster has gotten a Respiratory Infection and it's getting worse. I checked on him a little bit ago and he can't walk! He either sits on one hock/knee, or just lays to the side. He will eat, but he's not drinking a whole lot, if at all. I opened his mouth and saw mucus too.

Comb and wattles pale, lethargic, acts sleepy or keeps his eyes closed most of the time, and has crusted mucus around his nostrils. His head tends to droop if I hold him and if he's laying down in his cage, his head kind of "twitches". I'm so worried about him. Right now I have him on Duramycin in his water (which isn't helping if he won't drink it!

) I've been feeding him Layer Crumbles, also.

I blame myself for not doing proper quarantine practices. This was the same rooster that I brought to my County Fair. I think the stress of re-introduction caused this, but none of my other birds are showing these symptoms... even the 2 hens I brought home with him. I feel like I let him down

I just checked on him and he is able to stand

, for now at least... Tomorrow if I don't see him drink that much of the Duramycin, then I'm going to try an eye dropper.

Opa, I've never heard of Poultry Drench. I doubt that the TSC we go to would have it either since they didn't even have Tylan

Update:

Today he is still able to stand and has started walking again, though he's a little wobbly. He's still eating, but the best part is that this morning he drank the water on his own!

Hope for the future!

threehorses, tomorrow should I start the probiotics or should I wait another since I wasn't sure if he was drinking at all the the "first day"?

I think he was feeling lonely today too. I took him outside on the grass for some fresh air and he kept calling for the rest of the flock. He kinda sounded like one of the hens. He hasn't tried to crow yet though.. when he does I'll know he's back to good health.

Today he seems sooo much better. I moved him into a larger dog crate so he could move around more. Tomorrow I am going to take him off of the Duramycin. He's definitely improving. Has the energy to scratch around. Not enough to crow yet though. When I was preparing the new cage for him, I decided to let him run around a bit, and once I'd finished I went to look for him and he went straight over to see his girls in the run

I think he misses them
