I am trying to find images of how large an average Bourbon red turkey hen and tom will be when full grown as compared to something where he could get a relative idea of the size. He is thinking we are going to have buff looking chickens that gobble.

I have shown him how big my BBW show turkeys were but I know they won't reach that size. As he is more a sight based learner I'm asking for help giving him an idea how big our poults will be when they are grown. BTW can't wait til I get my babies in on the 22nd!

Also any tips or tricks on raising heritage birds compared to 4-5 month raising of freezer camp birds is appreciated.

Also BTW he wants to know if they will eat feral cats.

(p.s. I've told him they won't eat them but have had a large tom chase a deer off the property before)

Thanks Colby for the links the feeding info was about the same as I researched online from this website and various other sorts, Porter's had slightly higher protein to start (30% vs. 28%) and they maintained a bit higher protein throughout their lives. I was afraid I could overdo it on protein as they got older but now I have experience from someone that feeds in higher percentages with good results. I'm already prepared to do a total disinfect on the chicken brooder when my turkey poults come in and move the chickies outside. I wish I could have a second brooder but that's not feasible at this point. And I do remember having a few issues when I was showing market turkeys that some of the chicks would drown or fail to thrive which is why they usually had us do large orders so we'd have at least 4-5 good birds at show time to choose from. Marbles in the waterers sound like they would have helped with some of my earlier problems as well as starting them on paper towels and putting starter directly down on the ground for them. I feel like I was such a noob then and still am for the most part now.

Still would like to see if I could get an average height on these guys to show my fiancee. I saw a couple pics online finally of Bourbon reds compared to some small kids but as our 5 year old is just shy of 4' tall (yeah I know everything grows bigger in Texas lol) he's now getting the idea of these mammoth guard birds.

This is why I take care of the animals if left to him he'd probably be trying to breed two does together or have a pen full of roosters and wonder why he wasn't getting eggs. Love him to death though I'll teach this city boy eventually.

A big rooster is 10 lb, My bourbon red tom at 7 months was 26 lb. I will try to get a picture of my Roal Palm tom with something to compare to for size.
