I just have some questions about my EE Runt. First of all do you think she might be a roster? She is almost 11 weeks
I ask because the feathers on her back are always sticking up. However the tips are round and not pointed.

Her comb is also very small. I have two chicks that are almost a month younger that are definitely
cockerels. They have large bright red combs, the waddles are coming in, and one of them is starting to crow.

Ok my EE questions: One is it normal for an EE to have yellow feet? I have read that they can come in yellow but have not seen pics of them. Also her comb looks like a single not a pea and no beard. Do you think she is a mix? Maybe one parent and EE while the other one was something else? Thanks for reading.

SHe looks a lot like my EE except mine has slate/greeninsh legs but the coloring is very similar. there is a thread that pops up on here often that has a ton of info of sexing EE's

She looks to be a female. The feathers should lay flat at some point when she is a little older. She does not have a pea comb so I think she will lay brown eggs. In truth EE's are a mix as they don't breed true anyway.

I think she is still very pretty.

Here's the thing... at 11 weeks, with a comb that tiny and yellow (interesting to see a single comb on an EE), I'd say she was a pullet. However, an EE with that coloring (red with black splotches) is usually a cockerel. At 11 weeks, EE's often have pointed hackle and saddles coming in, but sometimes they're late developers and it takes a few more weeks. With reds, it's sometimes hard to see the hackle feathers because they can be the exact same color as the other neck feathers. And here's a tough question that I have to ask because the pictures don't really show it: would you say this chicken is a salmon color or a bright red color? Another useful thing might be to compare it to other chickens from the same source (if you have any). Good luck and let us know!

im leaning towards cockerel just because of the thick legs and the coloring although its coloring is usually a female only color

I have an EEer the same way. Mine has to be 4months old now. Had me so confused because she has a really tall hind feathers. But she has grown into them the last week or so. She is a hen and yours is too.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Runt is definitely more red. Her color is similar to the color that males get on the wings but her whole body is that color. I got her from a feed store. She was sold to me as a pullet but they also called them americanas. Unfortunately the other 3 EE's i got with her where killed by the dogs. She was the only one to get away. Runt was the smallest and the darkest of all the chicks also the only one with yellow legs. I got two more EEs from the same place they are over 4 weeks now. One has a comb just like runt but the legs are green and the coloring is lighter than she was.

Well what ever the case Runt is my fave. She is the easiest to handle and always comes running when she sees me. I will keep you posted on how she develops. TY :)
