Boy or girl mallard?

I have an 8 week old mallard and was wanting to know the gender! I read that all mallard chicks start with the female coloring (brown) and if its a boy you'll notice green on its head. Is this true? I have two other ducks (not mallards) that are male and female so I know what the quack sounds like. He/she is quiet but still has his/her peep. He/she has more than 1/2 of his/her feathers. I am noticing a little green in the head feathers. Boy or girl? Thanks

My runners started honking (precursor to quacks) at about 3 weeks. We have had no drakes, so I can only guess that if the mallard is still peeping it may be a drake. But that is a wild guess.

Some of my girls didn't start quacking until 8 weeks, and all of them have a green tinted cap on their head- looks black from a distance but is green in the right light. I started a thread to figure out the gender of my Mallards and I found looking a the bill the most helpful. Good luck

This gives me hope! lol What about the bill? The way you described your girls sound identical to my mallard! Thanks!!

Green bill means male. Or blue, in one of my duck's case. Can you post pictures? Maybe I gathered enough experience to tell. And then again, maybe not. But if I can't tell, someone else probably can.

Yeah, I'll post a pic later when I get my camera. I don't see any green or blue on his/her bill..
