In my breed, Sussex, the male hackle feathers ( on the neck) are pointed at the end. The female has rounded ends on her hackle feathers.
Best,

Silkies can be a bit of an adventure on gender determination - the pointy/round feathering refers to the saddle and hackle feathering and applies to chickens in general with females having rounded feathering and males having pointed feathering in those areas. Silike feathers, though, are different in overall structure and appearance and the common sexing "rules" of feathers don't really apply. There are other tell-tale signs that can be used in trying to figure the gender of silkies. If there is a particular bird, or birds, in your flock that you are unsure of you can always post photos and those experienced in sexing silkies can chime in on the genders as well as tell you what they are looking at that makes them think male/female so you can start to learn as well.
