Selling a chicken at an auction was an interesting experience. Using a cardboard box with holes in it was fine. I was surprised to learn that everything sells. We got a couple of dollars for him and celebrated with hot dogs from the food stand.

Love them auctions!! Most All of the ones that are for sale here are put into peanut boxes---just a standard for my area. Grown Roosters that are pretty and got good weight will bring more most of the time than a laying hen. Young roosters---a few months old-----bring very little. Its because if someone buys a 4 month old cockerel they will have to feed it for a few months to get it to adult size, time and money, etc makes it not wanted/desired by most.
