Oh and (i know the answer but a back up would be nice) gardner snakes ARENT poisonous and you WONT get sick from a bite, right? my grandpa says you do!

Gartner snakes are not poisonous. That doesn't mean that you may not get sick. They eat bugs, insects, and reptiles, and maybe birds. They don't have clean mouths, they do have teeth. If they bite and break the skin, you could get sick from that, just like with any cut or bite. Most of the time, though, they avoid you.

Ive kept elaphe gutta (albino corn snakes) and they do bite, some of them. THey've never broke my skin, except #13 who hated me. He bit hard as often as I'd let him.

If your bit, be sure your up on tetnis shots, that is the most important thing of all.

I cant keep snakes in AK, they always die (reptiles) and in Washington my grandma's scared to death of them!

I may be a year late on my tetnis shot... but heres what I say 'When i need it, ill get it' (i know i need it but i die when i see a shot)

Get the shot. Get the shot. Get the shot. You work with birds and beasties, and fence and metal stuff. Its easy to get lock jaw, and hard to cure. It can and will kill you.

No, they are NOT poisonous. NO, nada, zero, zilch. No. Your grandpa has confused them with copperheads or massasagas or something. They are poisonous. Just google the poisonous snakes in Alaska, view the pics, and avoid those.

Rule of thumb, if it has a pointy head/nose its likely venomous. IF its a rounded head/nose, its not. If in doubt, just don't let it bite you. I handle poisonous snakes a lot, and I've never been bitten. Just don't freak them out. Move slow, handle with care, never grab one in the middle, grab behind the head, or better with a stick longer than the snake.

Please, your my friend, get a tetnis shot every 3-5 years, and you'lll be ok. IF its been 5 years, please please beg your sweet mama to go get you one. Tetnis kills.
