He's been a cockerel all along. The cockerels feather in with the bright white bars you see. The pullets feather in very dark, with more spots than bars. At maturity, the pullet's bars form nicely. The cockerels also get their little wattles and pink combs at 5-6 weeks and they are quite noticeable at 9 weeks. The pullets' combs and wattles remain quite yellow and small until 17 weeks, give or take.
