BR chick gender...siiigh

I was hoping that you would respond! I've seen many of your posts about them, and wanted to hear it from you! Thanks!

It's not the end of the world that Henrietta is actually Henri, just would have preferred a pullet.

I love my BR boys, though I currently only have Zane, my crippled BR rooster, and a few BR cockerels in the grow out coop. Till this year, had a BR rooster in charge of my main flock for years. Now, my Delaware is in charge, but I'm going to sneak in a BR boy with some pullets when they're old enough and hope he will accept a male youngster in the flock with him. Miss my BR roosters, though Ike is really great.

Do you have any advice for making him okay being around humans? He's the first one that fell asleep in my lap, but that was at night during sleepy time anyway. I just want to make sure that he's socialized and doesn't treat me as another rooster!

You can't guarantee it. Mostly, temperament is inherited. The best thing to do is actually give him his space and don't baby him. You'll know if he's going to be aggressive when he is starting to show interest in mating the girls, around 15-18 weeks old, when his hormones kick into overdrive. That's when you see aggression for the first time in a rooster, generally, if he's going to be human-aggressive.

I "accidentally" picked 9 roos from a pullet pen, here are a few pics, from 2 days old till maturity.....hope it helps! ( some of these chicks are Austrolorps...)

We ended up getting rid of them all and starting all over...now I have 17 chicks, almost 9 different kinds....very excited to see them grow!!

Thanks for posting that. After seeing your BR's I feel more like mine is a pullet with an extra early comb. The legs on mine are much darker, the feathers are darker, I keep looking at her (about 100 times a day) comparing her feathers to her sister, and yes, she "sometimes" looks more white but really, it is just that she has more feathers. Her sister still has a lot of fluff on her back. Compared to your little flock mine looks much darker. Maybe there's hope for Pippin after all!
