Do BR tend to develop combs fairly early? More than half my br "pullets" seem to be developing combs. They are 4 weeks old today. I am assuming leghorns also develop kinda early too. We had leghorn chicks last year, but I can't remember if they developed this early. Everybody seems to be feathering out at about the same rate. Thanks for looking, and thanks for your help!!

Yours look like mine did at that age, and I have two lovely ladies!

I can't comment on the leghorns as I don't have any of those.

Good luck!

They do all seem to be dark colored to me, which is supposed to be pullets? You know the story, somebody came over and swore they were roos in there. Just freaked me out a little!

Thanks!!

those all looks like pullets to me. I had a leghorn rooster that grew a huge red comb and wattles at about 3-4 weeks. The barred rock chick that I have is 3 1/2 weeks and has a comb almost the size of yours, and she is a pullet.

I'll agree with everyone else - they look like girls!

The leghorns are definitely girls....They are the breed I specialize in...It's pretty easy to tell their sex by 2 weeks old. The boys will be noticably different! They usually have red combs/wattles by 2 weeks old, compared to the girls that are still yellow.

Thanks everybody! Ya'll made me feel better.

I had a feeling the leghorns would be very obvious very quickly. I'll keep my eye on the BRs.

I know a lot of people don't care for the leghorns, but I love the 2 big girls we have. They are very polite birds, and don't cause nearly the trouble the sussex seem to cook up!
