I have a 6 week old (as of this evening!) Barred Rock as well...
Mine is somewhat more developed, but the look is basically the same - and yes, mine is a cockerel, and so is yours. Mine is a friendly little fellow. I hatched him and two others (a white Jersey Giant pullet, the first out of the shell, and a Black sexlink pullet, the third one out...) and they all imprinted on me quite well, plus I feed the three of them crumbles from my hand at least once a day.
I have nicknamed him 'Dewey', because it sounds like the Latin/Italian for 'two'( pronounced "doo-aay").
Naturally the first one (white JG) is 'Prima', and the third is 'Terce'
Yes, chicken math does require that you now acquire more girls to eventually keep Rocky 'company'.
I have 6 Black Aussies - one of which has just begun crowing in the last two weeks, so Dewey's fate is not altogether clear...I have 7 viable eggs in my incubator right now - 6 blue-green shelled Barred Rock Roo/Ameraucana hen crosses (future olive eggers!) and one brown-shelled that will be pure Barred Rock. I'm hoping they'll all be pullets, but that would certainly defy the odds, now wouldn't it? If the brown egg and 4 of the blue-green eggs give me pullets, then at least 'Dewey' will have a sweetie of like breed with different genetic lines.OTOH, if the BR hatchling is a cockerel, then it will definitely be bound for "freezer camp", along with whichever BR/Amer. X's turn out male as well.
