Thanks again,, they are working hard. All of them have crochet projects going, sewing projects going, and we have only a month and a half left of school. I'm really going to miss this group! I sure hope I can do my club next year and maybe even get some funding. If I change schools over the Summer,, if I had a miracle and moved,,, I would have another school would welcome such a group!

Gabby the one making the blue quilt wants to learn to sew clothes so I'm going to pick up an easy pattern and we are going to work on it together,, but with the machine lol!!

I learned to sew clothes by starting out on dolls clothes. I have also taught my girls how to sew with dolls & baby clothes. They learn construction, layout, cutting & pinning, fitting, pattern-making, etc, but using a LOT less fabric, just in case there is a ~mishap~ ;-D
In fact, the first time we worked through a pattern we actually cut the pattern pieces out of paper, and taped them together, thus they saw how the pieces fit together. It made for a great visual that they have actually kept, and referred to time & again. This was also how my son developed his scout capote. He actually did all of the measuring & cutting out himself. ( he is not quite 12). He was able to make a small paper model, and then graduate to large paper patterns, and then used those pieces to cut out the actual capote. Perhaps a paper model would be a helpful way for a large class of kids to tackle that learning curve with the first pattern.

That is a great idea, I never thought about that. I might see if any of them have Barbie dolls or something similar and they can outfit them. It would take a lot less fabric,,

Estephanie's almost finished pot holder! It has it's top, batting, and terry cloth backing sewed together and now she is sewing through the layers to hold them together!

We did part of the sewing together on the machine, first time she's used it!!
