Brahma Bantams...why are they so uncommon??

Quote:
That is so unlike any brahma bantam I've had here over the years. Not a one has been flighty, mean, or bad layers. My hatch rates will attest to that and I don't even trim the males for breeding. Are you buying production quality birds from a hatchery? I really hate to knock hatcheries, but really, their birds aren't chosen for temperament, etc. And that has a lot to do with the quality of adults you'll end up with.

I have gotten the bantam ones from various places...a friend, MMH, the auction and TSC. All of them have been extremely unfriendly. Now I have two standard Light Brahmas (5-6 months old), one from Ideal and one from TSC and both are sweet, friendly and curious. I got a bantam LB from TSC at the same time as the standard one and I have already sold the bantam one...she was nothing like the standard. Maybe it is just my luck. I would like to find a Buff Brahma pullet or two to keep, so maybe I will have to try buying some eggs in the Spring from a BYC'er.

I would love to find dark brahama bantam eggs but so far haven't found any. I have one lonely roo here.

The American Poultry Association recognizes three colors of Brahma Bantams: Light, Dark, and Buff. The American Bantam Association recognizes five colors: Light, Dark, Buff, Black, and White. I've seen the Blacks and whites before and although they are much more uncommon, they will compete toe to toe with the other three colors. If they don't win at shows it is because judges are hesitant to place them because if it is an ABA and APA meet, then for the APA they can't go any better than best of variety, even though on the ABA side, technically they could win champion bantam.

I have two buff pullets that are laying daily - they just started about 3 weeks ago and they are probably averaging an egg every other day. I lost my two roos suddenly and bought 4 chicks from Meyers - now it looks like they are all pullets as well. I am still looking for a Buff Brahma Roo... anyone?????

Well, Buff Brahma Bantams just became a little less uncommon...at least in central FL.

I can't wait...we are getting a trio and my kids are going to show the pullets in 4-H. Well, my son will show one and my daughter is only old enough to do an exhibition show.

I'll post pictures when they arrive.

She'll lay soon, I promise. I had a few of my girls wait until 38 weeks, but they are my most dependable layers now.

I could help you out, but you'd need to supply your lonely roo with a ladder. I have LF girls and they are huge.
