Brahma chicks

Brahmas have a distinct “angry face” look to them as well. They look like a spinster school marm with a troublemaking student from back in the day.....if I was on my computer I’d pull up a photo and you could see very clearly what I mean. I didn’t really notice it until a well-respected Brahma breeder here on BYC pointed that look out to me - now I always see it!

I got duped into Rhode Island Red chicks marked as Buff Brahmas, but it was at a feed store other than TSC. When I remarked about the lack of feathering on the legs, a customer behind me who said he’d raised them before “informed” me that on the Buffs the leg feathering can take a couple of weeks to come in, and I had so wanted Buffs to add to my Lights that I fell for it, even though my brain was saying, “Run away, Blooie!” I did eventually get my Buffs, but not before I had 6 RIRs to get rid of. Fortunately a neighbor wanted RIR and hadn’t ordered his yet. So don’t feel bad, I wasn’t even new to chickens and my “want” overtook my common sense!

This happened to my parents. They bought three Brahmas and a mixed breed cockerel chick, all a few weeks old. I pointed out that one was obviously not like the others and they hadn't noticed up until that point! Sometimes you see what your heart desires rather than what your eyes tell you.

I was trying to figure out how a Dutch and a Delaware could be about the same size and then I learned that Welp hatchery has Delaware bantams. That helps ID the rest because it IDs the supplier and Welp has only certain breeds in their bantam offerings. Like the buff one with what appears to be a rose comb? "Belgium Quail".

Bantams are only offered as assorted at TSC. It's a mix of whatever breeds the hatchery offers in bantam size.

So, either the sign said Assorted Bantams and you misread it as Assorted Brahmas or the store had the wrong sign up.

They had them labeled as Brahma, I will be going in with pictures to show them they are selling the wrong chicks

Yes, I'm new to the chicken world, only been raising them for a year now. I have different breeds and wanted some brahma. Next time I will be more careful and do more studying before purchasing. My flock is small and these 4 are not breeds I already have so I will keep them as long as they are hens, don't want another rooster just yet. The rooster I have is doing just fine with 9 hens I have now, and they all get along with Mr. Bacon(potbelly pig lol) who also happens to live in the chicken yard with them lol

This is my light brahma chick, Aunt Bea. She (I hope!) is 4 weeks old today. I have never had a brahma, so I don't have much to go on, but with the feathery legs and large size overall, I can only assume that Meyer

sent me a brahma!
