Hello, I have a question for you all. Yesterday morning, I went to let my chickens out of the coop and one of my girls was found dead. She was a 2 year old Brahma. The day before she was happily running around with the flock (they free range) and seemed perfectly fine. I checked and she wasn't egg bound, her crop was clear, no mites- it's as if she just fell off the roost and that was it. All my birds are very healthy and happy and very well cared for,I just can't seem to figure out what could have happened. Has this ever happened to any of you? Does anyone have any ideas what caused this?

That happened to one of my hens, we suspected she had died from internal bleeding, poisoning, or disease. It was sort of a freak accident because our chickens are also well cared for and all the other hens were perfectly healthy, we just woke up one morning and found her dead. i cant really give any advice other than keep a close eye on your other chickens and make sure they didnt get into anything that could be poison for them.

I also found one of my Brahma pullets dead one morning, no sign of anything out of the ordinary. I was new to chickens at that time, but now I would perform a necropsy.

I had it happened to me once, hen just fell off the roost and died in front of my eyes even though she was healthy, few months later I got a hen that showed hot comb and couldn't maintain balance in the roost and couldn't walk, she recovered from it herself, few weeks later I got a cockerel showing the same symptoms and had to feed him half an ibuprofen pill and take him out the coop to the sun,he also recovered,to this day I don't know what it was but didn't seem infectious,I blamed it on spiders, there used to be a lot in the coop, winter got rid of them all and haven't had anymorecases of that mysterious illness
