Brahma question

digitS' :

I just have to comment . . . Brahmas might be considered friendly but what I found was that they are curious, brave and really independent by comparison with the other breeds I've had.

As an example: We like to take our chicks out to the garden when we are working there. They have a lot of fun, cause little damage when they are small and we have a lot of fun with their company

. Brahma chicks are nearly impossible in a setting like that!

Thirty five chicks heading off in 35 different directions !!

I really like Brahmas and believe they have a lot of personality but for a chicken, they take life on their own terms.

Steve

Hmmm Steve, my brahmas are exactly the opposite. Our fenced in yard is approx. a half acre in size. The only one that's ever gone out of the yard is one of my roosters, Zeus. Everyone else stays together. They have a four corners area that is their basic territory. Two corners have large trees with lots of shade & cover, one corner has a huge hibiscus bush, and the fourth corner is the house, with a 2 ft. eave. They wander out into the open between these corners, but only as a group. Besides Zeus slipping outside the fence the only other one I have to watch out for is a pullet that's an absolute airhead. She wanders off and then screams when she can't find the group. I'm pretty sure she'd be an airhead no matter what breed she was.
