Brahman cows. What do you know about them?

Yes I've seen the pictures. She is pretty but the main reason for my being interested in Brahmans is because I love the look of them. So I'm not really keen in getting crosses.

I believe it happens but I just can't imagin a 2000lbs bull jumping over stick much less a fence.

Then you'd be very suprised!

Never heard of that, but I suppose just about any cow could if they really wanted to. I don't know too many fences that could stop 1000 pounds of angry cow, lol.

Brahman purebred would be just fine for Australia.

Yeah, Brahmans jump. Where I come from, standard fencing is over 6ft high for them. When you drive past a ranch, you see the fence & think that there is game inside & then you see the Brahmans & go, ahhh.
Here's a big animal clearing a fence:

Would the cows still try and escape if they were on a 20 acre paddock? Would they have the 'grass is greener on the other side.' syndrome if they were in such a big paddock?

Brahman actually are not really known for their fast growth. They are actually one of the slowest maturing breeds out there. Purebred their temperaments are ok, but crosses are known for being a bit...crazy. If you intend to keep them pure that is one thing, but I do not suggest ever crossing them unless you have heavy duty equipment. We raised a lot of Brahman and Brahman crosses when we first got into cattle years and years ago. I can tell you a 200 lb Brahman cross calf can give an adult man a run for his money. They will fight you until they cannot fight anymore. We tried ear tagging and tattoo and group of about 20 heifers once. We never did get some of them done because they were that difficult to handle. Limousin had a bad rep for the temperament, but I can tell you they are puppy dogs compared to any of the Brahman crosses.
