What is the character and disposition of Brahmas? Do they do well in cold climates? Good layers?? Friendly? cautious? calm?

From my research they are good layers, quiet, calm, friendly. Do well in cold weather. From personal experience, my 2 light brahmas are far and away my most friendly and loving chickens. one of mine is a roo and he is a sweetheart (so far) I love them.

I think 3 or 4 of my chicks are light brahmas and they are the calmest of the chicks. Course they aren't yet a full week old.

They are *okay* layers. Generally, they are quiet, calm and friendly. Great for cold climates because of profuse, soft feathering and pea combs that don't frostbite easily.

My Light Brahmas are my best layers, especially in winter.....out doing buff and blue orps......They are calm and gentle birds and do quite well in our very cold winters in WV...

...and they're very talkative. Mine just follow me around chattering to themselves, or me, and are the sweetest things ever.

They calm, quiet ((unless I am talking directly to them if so, they will hold a conversation with you)), gentle & come running the minute I step into the yard!!!

Mine are different ages & it seems the more you handle them the more affectionate the become!

Love the Pea comb (((I had all cold hearty chickens last winter & they all got frost bite except my Brahmas & EEs))) Cold had no effect on them at all!!!

I agree with most of the folks here have said. Love love love my brahmas; especially my light ones. I picked them because they are also suppose to be heat tolerant, as well as cold hardy, and mine are holding up just fine with our recent 90+ degree temps.
