Bramas

I got 4 small dark brama chicks, (older chicks) and only 1 turned out to be a hen. THey are awesome birds, very friendly and tame, eats all the bugs in the yard, mixes my compost.

I'm not looking forward to doing what I have to do with the roos but for now they are cute friendly and fun to watch. I wish I could find more hens for my flock.

If that situation comes up again, keep in mind that dark brahmas are the only ones of the three common US colors - lights, darks, and buffs - that can be sexed at a young age by their feathering. The cockerels will feather out completely different than the pullets. Whereas the pullets will start to get the penciling or lacing in their feathers, the cockerels will not. They will be solid black.

Good luck on finding homes for the other roos

I have a chick that is 2 weeks old that holds its wings out like they do when they are hot. The problem is she does it all the time. Is this unusual or is she having hot flashes already.
