I've posted a few times now- but I guess I never did it here on the New Member Introductions forum! :)
I'm Jenn- married w/ 2 kids, 2 dogs- and now 2 buff orpington chicks, 1 splash orp (1 died), and 3 easter eggers! They hatched 7/16 and we picked them up from the farm (www.thenestingboxinoakboro.com) that same day! We love it! We live in NC and currently our babies are in an aquarium turned brooder in our spare room! Hi everyone!
 
Welcome to BYC, Jenn! Glad you decided to join our flock. Sorry about the loss of your Splash Orpington chick. That's a good selection of chicks you have. The Orpingtons are very calm and gentle birds (we have four BOs in our flock), and my grandaughter has made pets of them, although our Easter Eggers are her favorites; she loves the colored eggs. Raising chickens is a great experience for kids. Good luck with your flock and your kids. :eek:)
 
I am new too, this is our first time raising hens as well...We mail ordered from Meyer Hatchery and they are 5 weeks old this week. We have 6 buff orpingtons, 6 rhode island reds, 6 black australorps, and one odd hen they threw in just in case one did make it. We named her Oreo because she is black/white and we think she is a bard rock .

So far so good, they are eating machines and growing fast.
 
Howdy neighbors! We are also kind of new to chickens. We have only had ours ( 4 silkies) for about 3 months and we also live in NC! There is no better site than BYC to find all of the information you need about chickens and meet a bunch of friendly people.
